Performing Arts Medicine Abroad: The German Society for Music Physiology and Musician's Medicine (DGFMM: Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Musikphysiologie und MusikermedizinJochen Blum
Abstract: The German Society for Music Physiology and Musician's Medicine was founded in 1994 in Munich. It operates from Mainz (Germany) for German-speaking professionals who are interested in the physiologic and medical problems of musicians. Unlike PAMA, it concentrates on instrumentalists and singers only, since dancers in Germany already have quite good medical support. Furthermore, it is the society's philosophy that different medical approaches are necessary regarding the problems of musicians and dancers. Due to this and the fact that there is limited experience in both fields, the society feels it more efficient to concentrate on one instead of both groups. |
