Health Promotion in Schools of Music: Initial Recommendations for Schools of MusicKris S. Chesky, William J. Dawson, Ralph Manchester
Abstract: The primary goal of the Health Promotion in Schools of Music (HPSM) Project is to assist schools of music to prevent occupational injuries associated with learning and performing music. With this goal in mind, a national conference was hosted in the fall of 2004 to connect health care experts with individuals and organizations involved in the education of musicians. PAMA Susan E. Harman1 recently evaluated the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) website. Harman wrote, ¿Like many small nonprofits, PAMA must depend on the personal interest of someone with information technology skills, donations from foundations or commercial sources, or ¿adoption¿ by a larger organization to provide a web page. . . . Hopefully, with time and communication, PAMA and UNT [University of North Texas] will be able to develop the site further.¿ Readers will be glad to know that these two entities have been working on the PAMA website. This article describes the recent development of the Links page on the PAMA website through the collaboration of the PAMA Liaison Committee (PLC) members between summer 2005 and spring 2006. |
