Abstract: Medical Problems of Performing Artists and the annual ¿Medical Problems of Musicians and Dancers¿ meeting share more than just similar names. Historically, the journal and conference were both started by Dr. Alice Brandfonbrener in the 1980s. As readers of this publication know, the journal recently celebrated its 20th year, and 2007 will be the 25th annual meeting in Aspen. The Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) became a reality after a series of discussions among Aspen symposium attendees in the early 1980s, and now both the journal and the Aspen meeting have become official functions of PAMA.
