Abstract: ALL OF US who are concerned about the health of performing artists hope that, through our combined efforts, we will see improvements in the health status of musicians, dancers, actors, and other performers in the coming years. Ideally, this will mean the betterment of all aspects of performing artists¿ health, including the physical, psychological, social, and creative domains. (Obviously, this will require a dramatic change in how health care is delivered and paid for in the U.S., but that is a broader topic than I can cover in a brief editorial.) But in order to know if we are making progress, we need to have data on some key health indicators. What I will discuss in the next few paragraphs is how we might be able to measure the health of performing artists, mainly with regard to performance-related injuries.
