Abstract: Attempts to simplify the administration of paclitaxel and reduce the incidence of hypersensitivity reactions to its vehicle by devising a water-solubole formulation hav eproduced an unexpected result. Aonjugation of paclitaxel with a synthetic amino acid polymer appears to make the drug more effecteve in animal models than when it is given by itself. The increase in efficacy does not seem to depend entirely on intracellular release of paclitaxel from the polymer. On the other hand the poly(L-glutamic acid) carrier has no evident effect of its own on either tumor cells or normal cells.
