Abstract: Spiral CT improves standard imaging applications and makes new techniques possible. Volume rendering can be helpful in displaying the huge volumes of data generated by spiral scanners in a number of clinical applications, particularly musculoskeletal imaging, CT angiography, and oncologic imaging. Volume rendering facilitates a comprehensive approach to imaging in which advanced processing techniques exttract from a single data set many pieces of information that previously required multiple studies. Thse applications of volume-rendered 3-d medical images represent a unique opportunity to reduce medical costs while maintaining or improving the quality of patient care.
