Abstract: Recent studies have characterized the molecular mechanisms by which multiple myeloma plasma cells interact with the bone marrow microenvironment to regulate tumor cell growth, survival. and migration. Novel therapies have been developed to target key molecules in these pathways, including bortezomib, a new proteaseome inhibitor, and several other agents now in clinical evaluation.
