Abstract: The current climate of opinion leaves no room for dissension from the idea that physicians must always tell the truth. Given the current legal consequences of such veracity, my title ¿Tolling the Truth¿ is intended to call up an image of bells doleful at a funeral. That fear of legal action must be reduced or eliminated if the profession is ever to get a handle on the frequency and sources of medical mistakes.
